Who are your clients?
We work with architects, interior designers, boutique studios, hospitality designers, collectors, and individuals who value craftsmanship, quality materials, and detailed design in furniture.
What does The Raj Company do?
The Raj Company is a family-owned, legacy furniture company that specialises in designing and manufacturing the finest quality custom furniture. In addition, we also have a specially curated collection of antiques in our Mumbai showroom and occasionally work on reproductions and restoration as well.
How does the custom furniture process begin?
Interior designers or individual clients share sketches, reference images, or photographs along with detailed measurements for custom designs. Our team reviews the concept and asks any necessary technical questions before sharing a detailed quote.
Alternatively, clients inquire about existing designs from our catalogue (with any custom specifications if required) and we quote prices accordingly.

What happens after I place a custom order?
Our drafting and design team prepares orthographic drawings to your exact dimensions. Production begins only after you approve these drawings in writing. We keep clients informed at every step of the way to ensure each detail is ironed out prior to finishing and delivery.
Can I request changes after drawing approval?
You may request 2 revisions before drawing approval. Changes after approval and once production has begun will not be entertained apart from in exceptional cases.
Can I get shop drawings before placing the order?
We provide detailed shop drawings only after the order is confirmed and deposit has been paid. However, in exceptional cases we may provide shop drawings before the deposit has been received.
Do you provide finish samples?
Yes. You may request a set of our standard finishes in Teak, Oak or Rattan, which can be purchased and shipped at a nominal cost.
We can also develop premium custom finishes, for which you are required to send us a control sample to our Mumbai office so that we may create a matching sample for your review.

Will I receive updates during production?
Yes. We share detailed progress photos at key stages of production so you can follow the build closely. Our customer service team is dedicated to providing timely support and is happy to answer your questions over email or on a progress update call at any stage.
Can you replicate antique or historical designs?
Absolutely. We specialize in creating premium reproductions with authentic craftsmanship. Our specialties in reproductions lie in colonial and other period style furniture. We do not however purchase or repair antiques, unless in exceptional circumstances.
Do you work with COM (Customer’s Own Material)?
Yes, we can fit any COM fabric provided by you at no additional charge. Our upholstered products are available either in the base White Muslin or any fabric provided by you. If you would like us to upholster your piece, procure fabric and make arrangements to have it sent to us in our Mumbai Workshop, we will be happy to fit it.
Do you handle restoration projects?
No. We only restore and revive antique furniture that we procure.
What types of wood do you use?
We primarily work with teakwood, chosen for its durability, stability, and ability to take refined finishes. We also offer oak and Rosewood options.
Do you offer rattan and cane work?
Yes. All cane and rattan panels are hand-woven by skilled artisans who ensure perfect tension and clean pattern alignment.
Do you customize bone inlay?
Yes, we do.
Do you work with metal and brass?
Yes. We forge, weld, and machine metal in-house, and offer brass solid components, brass cladding, and brass inlay in a variety of finishes.
Do handcrafted finishes vary?
Slight variations in tone, texture, and grain are normal and reflect the natural character of materials and artisanal processes.
Can you match a reference finish?
Yes. Provide us with a physical sample at our workshop, and we can create a custom finish accordingly to give you the closest possible match. A 100% match is not guaranteed.
Where do shipments originate from?
All orders are packed and dispatched from Mumbai, India.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes, we do.
How do you ship furniture internationally?
By default, via ocean freight using trusted third-party freight forwarders. Air freight is available upon request.
Are shipping charges included in the product price?
No. Freight, packing, and insurance are billed as per actuals.
What costs am I (client/buyer) responsible for at destination?
All destination charges, including, port duties, taxes, VAT/GST, terminal handling, warehouse fees, customs clearance, and final delivery to your door.
Do you assist with destination clearance?
We cannot directly manage destination clearance but can recommend reliable customs brokers.
Are shipments insured?
Yes. All shipments include All Risk Marine Transit Insurance for the full value of the goods.
What should I do if a shipment arrives damaged?
- Photograph the packaging and contents immediately.
- Ensure damage is noted on carrier documents.
- File the claim directly with the insurer within 7 days.
- If damage is visible at delivery, file the claim immediately upon receipt.
Who processes insurance claims?
Claims are handled solely by the insurance company. We assist as facilitators but cannot influence decisions.
Do you offer trade pricing?
No, we do not currently offer a Trade Programme.
Can I cancel a custom order?
Custom orders cannot be canceled after drawing approval or once production begins. We only offer store credit for the orders cancelled before production starts.
Do you offer refunds?
Payments for custom work are non-refundable.
Who owns the designs and drawings?
All designs, drawings, images, and technical documents produced by The Raj Company remain our intellectual property unless explicitly agreed otherwise.
Can The Raj Company showcase custom pieces?
Yes. We reserve the right to photograph and share completed pieces in our portfolio, website, and marketing materials unless otherwise agreed in writing.
